Alaska Airlines and Bank of America Expand Visa Signature Rewards and Perks

Alaska Airlines and Bank of America have announced an expanded benefits profile for their cobranded Visa Signature credit card.

Cardholders will now be able to earn 2 miles for every dollar spent on gas, local transit (including rideshare), cable, and select streaming services. They will also still earn 3 miles for every dollar on Alaska Airlines purchases, and 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases.

The card will also now offer a relationship bonus. Cardholders who have an open Bank of America checking, savings, or investment account will earn a 10% rewards bonus on all miles earned from their card purchases.

Priority boarding will now be available for travelers (and up to 6 companions) who purchase their ticket with the card. Plus, cardholders can get $100 off an annual Alaska Lounge+ Membership purchased with the card.

The card still offers most of its previous perks, including a free checked bag and 20% off onboard purchases. Also, current cardholders will still receive an account anniversary companion fare from $122. New cardholders, however, must spend $6,000 during the anniversary year to receive the companion fare.

Authorized user privileges are being expanded, too. Authorized users will now have access to a free checked bag and priority boarding even when they’re not traveling with the primary cardholder.

The caveat? The card’s annual fee is increasing from $75 to $95.

The Alaska Airlines Visa does not assess foreign transaction fees, and currently offers a welcome bonus of 70,000 miles and a companion fare when cardholders spend $3,000 in the first 90 days.

“We strived to add benefits that mean the most to our cardholders – from adding value to their travel experience when using the card to earning more miles on things we buy all the time,” said Sangita Woerner, senior vice president of marketing and guest experience at Alaska Airlines, in a press release.

Similar changes will be coming to the Alaska Airlines Business Credit Card this spring.
